United Church of Spring Valley has several seasonal events each year. Read the descriptions below to find out more.
Olde Fashioned Christmas
Olde Fashioned Christmas is a time for family and friends to share time together in the Advent season before Christmas. The merriment begins with a potluck supper. The children can do cookie baking in the church kitchen while others make decorations for the Christmas tree. Afterwards we sing Christmas carols by a cheery fire. Then comes the excitement of decorating and lighting the tree in the sanctuary. To top the evening off, we all celebrate working together with an array of desserts for us all to sample.
Youth and Children’s Sunday/ Annual Picnic
The Youth and Children’s Sunday is held at the beginning of summer. During church service the children, youth and Sunday School teachers are honored. High School graduates are recognized and share memories with the congregation.
Then the annual church picnic is held at the Warwick Center in Warwick, NY. Everyone brings a dish of food to share and the church provides food for the grill and beverages. Members, friends and children eat, chat, play cards, games, outdoor sports and swim in the pool. Good food, good fellowship and good fun for everyone!
Rally Day is held the first Sunday when Sunday School begins for the fall. It is the church’s welcome back to all Sunday School students, their friends and relatives. Following Sunday School, lunch is served for the children and volunteers. Afterward we play many games and the children have opportunities to win prizes. Lots of fun for all—rain or shine!
Multiple times a year people gather to help maintain the church and its grounds. Many different tasks are available for those of all abilities. Plus, lunch is provided for all.
